Mobile apps for Wikwio

Wikwio project has successfully launched its mobile apps, for smartphones and tablets under Android and IOS systems, for weed species identification and a citizen science app for recording observation weed species occurrence.

Wikwio IDAO app

Wikwio IDAO app will help identify 345 weed species (and counting) of major food and cash cropping systems in Indian Ocean and Africa. With its intuitive graphic driven interface it requires no prior taxonomic knowledge to identify weed species. The app allows one to build a virtual plant based on morphological characters which in the process helps the user to identify the appropriate species. Users can consult the list of species by common and family names. An interesting aspect is that one can view the complete set of characters of a species by selecting it from the species list, apart from consulting the respective species descriptions, including biological, ecological and management information, from the portal (http://portal.wikwio.org).

The android app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and iOS for ipad and iphone can be downloaded from Apple Appstore by clicking on the respective links below.

Wikwio Citizen Science app

Wikwio Citizen Science application allows one to upload observations of weed species of cropping systems to the WIKWIO portal (http://portal.wikwio.org). With a simple interface this app allows a registered user to record and upload new observations with geo-location, date and if known, the species name. One can browse observations on the portal and also browse observation near the user's location. Significantly, it allows users to collect observation on the field offline and submit the collected observations later when they get connected to Internet.

The android app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and iOS for ipad and iphone can be downloaded from Apple Appstore by clicking on the respective links below.
